Despina has been Director and founding member of EBCD since its establishment in 1989, linking the conservation and scientific communities, as well as the private sector, to EU policy-makers, and providing them with expert strategic advice. She has been active in IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) as Member of the ExCom of the Species Survival Commission, and Coordinator of the Fisheries Working Group under the European Sustainable Use Specialist Group.
Despina is the founding Member and Coordinator of the Fisheries Expert Group of the IUCN Commission of Ecosystem Management (IUCN/CEM/FEG). Prior to joining EBCD, Despina worked on fisheries-related issues in Madrid where she represented the Spanish coastal fishermen to the EU, and as freelance translator for the Secretary of State of Canada.
Sandra joined EBCD in March 2014 as an intern. After three months she became Fisheries Policy Officer. Prior to this, Sandra worked as an intern in the European Commission (DG MARE) on IUU fishing. She also worked in Eurodesk Elblag (Poland) as a project assistant, in Europe Direct in A Coruña, at the Fundación Galicia-Europa, and at the permanent representation of Galicia in Brussels as junior consultant on European Union policies.
Sandra holds a bachelor degree in Law from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a Masters degree in European Union Studies from the University of A Coruña.
Jessica joined EBCD in May 2017 as a Fisheries Policy Officer Assistant. Prior to this, Jessica worked as an intern Policy Officer in the European Commission (DG MARE) on Fisheries Management Atlantic, North Sea and Baltic Sea (TACs and quotas). She also worked in an environmental and sustainable development consultancy, ARIES Consultants (Belgium), as a Project Assistant. Jessica also interned at the Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium and Bruxelles Environnement.
Jessica holds a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Environmental Management from the Haute Ecole Lucia de Brouckère, Belgium, and a Master’s degree in Water and Environmental Management from the University of Brighton, United Kingdom.
Stella joined EBCD in May 2017. Previously working as Programme Officer for Sustainability in ANEC, the European Consumer Voice in Standardisation, she dealt with various topics including ecodesign, smart energy systems and circular economy from a consumer’s perspective. Before that she gained field experience in Burundi, when strengthening a local Environmental NGO in their communication activities and supporting the water and sanitation sector reform in the country. Stella started her career in the United Nations Environment Programme, supporting the implementation of Memoranda of Understanding concluded under the auspices of the Convention on Migratory Species. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Languages and Communication and a Master’s degree in European Studies.
Lynn started at EBCD in February 2015 as an intern and joined the team in September as European Parliament Intergroup Officer. Before joining she acquired experience through a traineeship at the European Economic and Social Committee in the Sustainable Development Observatory working on various environmental issues. Prior to this she interned at the United Nations Headquarters in New York at the Division for Sustainable Development.
Lynn holds a Bachelor degree in Environmental Studies from Södertörn University, Sweden as well as a Master in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science from Lund University, Sweden.
Panos joined EBCD in February 2017 as Administrative and Financial Officer. Before joining our team, he was working as a Finance Officer in an international NGO based in Brussels and Lisbon, Portugal. He started his career as accountant in G4S Greece where, after a few years, he was placed as Cash Reconciliation Officer in the internal audit team.
Panos holds a Bachelor degree in Business Administration from TEI Piraeus, Greece and a Masters’ degree in Project Management from the City University of Seattle, US.
