Islands and Overseas entities Working Group

Co-chair: MEP Spyros Danellis (Greece, S&D, Delegation for Relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council)

MEP Syros Danellis is substitute member of TRAN and AGRI committee. Member of the Greek Parliament from 1996 to 2000, he was also Mayor of Hersonissos (Crete) from 2003 to 2009. He was one of the signatories of the declaration on the "Pact of Islands as an official European initiative".

Co-chair: MEP Maurice Ponga (France, EPP, DEVE Committee)

MEP Maurice Ponga is member of the Development Committee, the Delegation to the Cariforum and the Delegation for relations with Australia and New Zealand. He was Member of the National Assembly for 10 years, and has served as minister in several New Caledonian governments (1999-2009). He is rapporteur of the "Proposal on the association of the overseas countries and territories with the European Community".

 

The “Islands and Overseas Entities” Working Group notably addresses the following issues:

• The coherence of the Natura 2000 network
• Desertification
• Particular situation of Overseas Entities
• OCTA
• Specific fund for biodiversity
• Network and regional cooperation
• Redefinition of less favourable areas
