SUMMARY:Online Event: Greening raw materials policy
DESCRIPTION:27 October 2021, 10:00 – 11:45 CEST\n \n \nHosted by MEP Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou\nVice-Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Trade (INTA)\n \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER ( https://ebcd.webex.com/ebcd/onstage/g.php?MTID=eda08946cd4b38ed98147773b6749be79 )\n \nSustainable and responsible use of natural resources is critical to maintain the European Union economically competitive and environmentally preserved. For this reason, the management of primary and secondary raw materials has an important role to play in achieving resource efficiency and meeting the objectives set by the New Circular Economy Action Plan. Via its Report on the New Circular Economy Action Plan ( https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/A-9-2021-0008_EN.html ), the European Parliament (EP) has underlined the need for an absolute decoupling of economic growth from resource use, calling the European Commission to propose science-based binding EU mid-term and long-term targets for the reduction in the use of primary raw materials. On a similar note, waste management needs to be better addressed, for instance in terms of separate collection, sorting and recycling facilities, to increase the quantity and quality of recycled waste that can be injected back into the economy as secondary raw materials. Moreover, the maintenance of coherence between EU’s internal and external policies is also essential to ensure that human rights and environmental protection standards of imported primary and secondary materials are equivalent to European’s ones.\nAs a result, this online event organized by the EP Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development” offers a room of discussion to key stakeholders involved in circularity and raw materials to further analyze the necessary steps to stimulate Europe’s transition towards a more circular raw materials economy.\n \nFinal Agenda:\n10:00 – 10:10 – Opening remarks by MEP Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou\n10:10 – 11:00 – Panel discussion:\n\nSilvija Aile, Deputy Head of B3 Unit on Waste Management & Secondary Materials, DG ENV, European Commission\nEmmanuel Katrakis, Secretary General, EuRIC\nStéphane Arditi, Director of Policy Integration and Circular Economy, EEB\nUlrich Leberle, Raw Materials Director, Cepi\nPaul Skehan, Senior Director, Corporate Affairs, PepsiCo – on behalf of FoodDrinkEurope\n\n11:00 – 11:10 – Reactions from MEPs (5’ per speaker):\n\nMEP Cyrus Engerer\nMEP Manuela Ripa\n\n11:10 – 11:40 – Q&A session with the audience11:40 – 11:45 – Take-away messages by MEP Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou\n \nVenue\nWebex\nDocuments of the meeting\nFinal Agenda – ‘Greening raw materials policy’ ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Final-Agenda-Greening-raw-materials-policy.pdf )\nWebinar Recording – Password: sG7X3te6 ( https://ebcd.webex.com/ebcd/lsr.php?RCID=0e93c02491cfa94f02f634b783a68d8d )\nWebinar Report – Greening Raw Materials Policy ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/Webinar-Report-Greening-Raw-Materials-Policy-1.pdf )\nRegistration Report ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Registration-Report-1.pdf )\nEmmanuel Katrakis – EuRIC – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Emmanuel-Katrakis-EuRIC-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\nUlrich Leberle – Cepi – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/Ulrich-Leberle-Cepi-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\n
