SUMMARY:Revision of the ‘Drinking Water Directive’
DESCRIPTION: \nWednesday 16 May 2018, 13.30-15.30\n\nHosted by Michel Dantin MEP\nRapporteur for the European Parliament on the Drinking Water Directive recast, Chair of the “Agriculture & Water Management” working group of the EP Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development” \n\nHigh quality, safe and sufficient drinking water is essential for our daily life. The EU has a history of over 30 years of drinking water policy, which ensures that water intended for human consumption can be consumed safely on a life-long basis.\nThe European Commission adopted on 1 February 2018 a proposal for a revised drinking water directive to improve the quality of drinking water and provide greater access and information to citizens. The proposal for modernizing the 20 year old drinking water directive (98/83/EC) comes as a result of the REFIT evaluation, the implementation of the Commission’s response to the European Citizens’ Initiative ‘Right2Water’ and as a contribution to meeting the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals.\nThe proposal aims to improve water quality, safety, and access for all. It also aims to provide better access to information to consumers about the quality and supply of drinking water in their living area.\nThis meeting therefore gathered policy-makers and stakeholders to discuss its revision.\nDocuments of the meeting\nFinal Agenda ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/20180418-Draft_Agenda_DWD_16-May.pdf )\nFinal Event Report ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Revision-of-the-Drinking-Water-Directive-Event-Report.pdf )\nList of Participants ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/DWD-Event-Final-Participants-List-Online.pdf )\nDaniel Calleja Crespo, European Commission, DG Environment Director General – Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/Daniel-Calleja-Crespo_DWD-recast-presentation-for-European-Parliament-16.5.2018.pptx.pdf )\nDr. Claudia Castell-Exner, EurEau, Vice-President – Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/20180515_DWD_Intergroup_EurEau_final.pdf )\nDr. Franz Fiala, The European Consumer Voice in Standardisation (ANEC), Sustainability WG Chair – Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/DWD-EU-Parliament-1805_presentation-Fiala.pdf )\n
