SUMMARY:Hybrid Event: Oceans in climate negotiations: What role for blue foods?
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 17th November 2022, 09:30 – 10:30 CET\n \nHybrid event organized at the European Parliament, Brussels – Room ASP 5G1 / online \n \nHosted by MEP Pierre Karleskind\nChair of the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries (PECH)\n \nEVENT REGISTRATION:\n \n\nRegistrations for physical participation are now closed.\n\n\nIf you would like to join the event online, please fill in the Online Attendance Registration Form.\n\n \nOceans have officially entered the climate negotiations; this became a reality at the 2021 UN Climate Conference (COP26) held in Glasgow, UK. With this recent innovation in climate diplomacy, a key question is how blue foods fit in the negotiating package, especially in the context of COP27. Aquaculture and fisheries have been so far left out of the UN climate talks; yet, they are impacted by the consequences of climate change on marine biodiversity and ocean infrastructures. At the same time, they have the potential to contribute to climate solutions by identifying and adopting a number of mitigation and adaptation options. This event aims at shedding light about what blue foods can do for the climate, if properly involved. Furthermore, it provides elements to climate negotiators and other stakeholders attending COP27 with relevant information on fisheries and aquaculture in the context of climate change.\n \nBreakfast will be served during the event\n \nAgenda:\n \n09:30 – 09:40:                       MEP Pierre Karleskind, Chair of the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries (PECH)\n09:40 – 09:45:                       Vera Agostini, Deputy Director, Fisheries and Aquaculture Division, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO): “State of play of UN climate negotiations – implications for fisheries and aquaculture”\n09:45 – 09:50:                       Isabelle Garzon, Advisor for International Affairs, DG MARE, European Commission\n09:50 – 09:55:                       Yannis Pelekanakis, FEAP: “Driving the successful adaptation of European fish farming to climate change and its contribution to low-carbon diets”\n09:55 – 10:00:                       Dr. Raphaëla le Gouvello, Expert, IUCN Ecosystem-based Aquaculture Specialist Group: “Making aquaculture work for conservation, climate and food security”\n10:00 – 10:05:                       Daniel Voces de Onaíndi, Managing Director, Europêche: “Decarbonizing the fishing industry – barriers ahead and how to overcome them”            \n10:05 – 10:25:                       Q&A session with the audience\n10:25 – 10:30:                       Closing remarks by Ilias Grampas, Deputy-Director, Secretariat of the EP Intergroup on “Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development”\n \n \nVenue\nWebex\nDocuments of the meeting\nFinal Agenda – ‘Oceans in climate negotiations; What role for blue foods’ ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Final-Agenda-Oceans-in-climate-negotations-What-role-for-blue-foods.pdf )\nWebinar Recording ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgAm3CjqIj8 )\nEvent report – Oceans in climate negotiations – What role for blue foods ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Event-report-Oceans-in-climate-negotiations-What-role-for-blue-foods.pdf )\nRegistration Report ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Registration-Report-2.pdf )\nFAO – Vera Agostini – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/FAO-Vera-Agostini-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\nFEAP – Yannis Pelekanakis – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/FEAP-Yannis-Pelekanakis-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\nIUCN – Raphaëla le Gouvello – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/IUCN-Raphaela-le-Gouvello-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\nEuropêche – Daniel Voces de Onaíndi – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Europeche-Daniel-Voces-de-Onaindi-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\n
