SUMMARY:Hybrid Event: Science advances at the ocean-climate-biodiversity nexus: Highlights from the Atlantic
DESCRIPTION:Thursday 2nd March 2023, 14:15 – 16:00 CET\n \nHybrid event held at the European Parliament (ASP 3H1) & online\n \nHosted by MEP Isabel Carvalhais\n \nEVENT REGISTRATION:\n \n\nRegistration for physical participation is now closed. \n\n\nIf you would like to join the event online, please fill in the Online Attendance Registration Form.\n\n \nThis event aims at looking into the important emerging findings from the iAtlantic project ( https://www.iatlantic.eu/ ), a multidisciplinary marine science programme funded under the EU’s Horizon2020 initiative.\niAtlantic is undertaking an ocean-wide approach to understanding the factors that control the distribution, stability and vulnerability of ecosystems in the Atlantic Ocean. Its work will help determine the tipping points – the points of irreversible change – for deep and open-ocean ecosystems, highlighting which drivers are most crucial in propelling ecosystems towards those tipping points, and providing new insights into the factors that influence and support ecosystem resilience to environmental change. This ambitious programme spans the full scale of the Atlantic basin from the tip of Argentina in the south to Iceland in the north, and from the east coasts of Canada and Brazil to the western margins of Europe and Africa. International scientific collaboration throughout the Atlantic region is critical to the project’s success with sharing of expertise, equipment, infrastructure, data and personnel at the forefront of iAtlantic’s approach. Collaboration with other initiatives and projects is also key, particularly with other All Atlantic research programmes such as TRIATLAS and AtlantECO.\niAtlantic is in its final year and is generating scientific results that are important for understanding Atlantic Ocean ecosystem health at different scales, which will help support sustainable management of our activities in the ocean.\nThis event will serve as a key opportunity to raise awareness of iAtlantic project outputs, as well as the broader All Atlantic project family, and discuss their implications and policy relevance with various policymakers and key stakeholders.\n \nFINAL AGENDA:\n14:15 – 14:25                 Opening remarks by MEP Isabel Carvalhais\n \n14:25 – 14:40                Presentation of the iAtlantic project and emerging results by Prof. Murray Roberts, iAtlantic Coordinator\n \n14:40 – 15:25                Panel discussion with the participation of:\n \n\nSzilvia Nemeth, Deputy Head of B4 Unit on “Healthy Ocean and Seas”, DG RTD, European Commission\nRepresentatives from ‘sister’ H2020 research projects TRIATLAS coordinator Noel Keenlyside, and AtlanticECO coordinator, Daniele Iudicone\nMonica Verbeek, Executive Director, Seas At Risk\nAurélie Spadone, Senior Programme Officer, Ocean Governance, IUCN\nPaul Thomas, Policy Officer, European Association of Fish Producer Organisations\n\n \n15:25 – 15:55               Q&A session with the audience\n                            \n15:55 – 16:00                Closing remarks by MEP Isabel Carvalhais\n \n \nImage credit: ‘IceAGE 3 expedition – Jenny Neuhaus, Senckenberg/iAtlantic project’\n \n \n \n \nVenue\nWebex\nDocuments of the meeting\nFinal Agenda – ‘Science advances at the ocean-climate-biodiversity nexus; Highlights from the Atlantic’ ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Final-Agenda-Science-advances-at-the-ocean-climate-biodiversity-nexus-Highlights-from-the-Atlantic.pdf )\nWebinar Recording – Password: NxMPqrm6 ( https://ebcd.webex.com/ebcd/lsr.php?RCID=a8c8ffe503911b0357a39b5bc1a27546 )\nEvent Report – Science advances at the ocean-climate-biodiversity nexus_ Highlights from the Atlantic ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Event-Report-Science-advances-at-the-ocean-climate-biodiversity-nexus_-Highlights-from-the-Atlantic.pdf )\nRegistration Report ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Registration-Report-2.pdf )\niAtlantic Coordinator – Murray Roberts – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/iAtlantic-Coordinator-Murray-Roberts-PDF-Presentation-1.pdf )\nTRIATLAS coordinator – Noel Keenlyside – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/TRIATLAS-coordinator-Noel-Keenlyside-PDF-Presentation.pdf )\nAtlanticECO coordinator – Daniele Iudicone – PDF Presentation ( https://ebcd.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/AtlanticECO-coordinator-Daniele-Iudicone-PDF-Presentation.pdf ) \n
