SUMMARY:Hybrid Event: ESPR and circularity – What’s next?
DESCRIPTION: \nTuesday 27th June 2023, 11:15 – 12:30 CEST\nHybrid event held at the European Parliament (Room JAN 6Q1) & online\nEvent Recording ( https://youtu.be/azOMrYay9j8 )\n \nHosted by MEP Maria Spyraki\nCo-Chair of the European Parliament Intergroup on ‘Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’\n \nPresented in March 2022, the Eco-design for Sustainable Products Regulation (“ESPR”) is part of the Green Deal and the cornerstone of the Commission’s approach to strengthening the circular economy, reducing resource consumption, and making sustainable products the norm in the internal market. This file is of particular importance as it sets core sustainability requirements across all industries. Integrating environmental considerations into all stages of a product’s life is fundamental to making it circular and minimizing its impact on the environment. In this context it is important for all stakeholders involved, including industry, NGOs and policymakers to take the time to look into products which are less harmful to the environment, by optimizing product design and circularity.\nThe aim of this event is to create a discussion on the ESPR and discuss together with policymakers, NGOs and industry representatives, best practices on circularity and how they contribute to the Green Deal goals. The event provides a valuable opportunity to highlight how industrial innovations can contribute to Europe’s circular economy journey. Also, it will bring together various stakeholders to discuss the challenges of this regulation, its gaps, and its opportunities around key concepts including the digital product passport, green public procurement, the ban on the destruction of unsold goods, as well as due diligence. A panel will provide highlights on how industry efforts around product design and packaging innovation, combined with legislation that incentivizes circular practices including on reuse and DRS, can help us achieve a real “close-looped” economy in Europe.\n \nAGENDA:\n11:15 – 11:25                   Opening remarks by MEP Maria Spyraki\n11:25 – 12:05                  Panel discussion with the participation of:\n \n\nWilliam Neale, Adviser for Circular Economy, Dir.
