Event on “Polar Science for Global Action – Strengthening Climate Preparedness through EU Leadership”
Tuesday 3rd June 2025, 9:00 – 11:00
European Parliament (tbc)
This event will highlight the latest findings from major European research projects — PolarRES, CRiceS, PROTECT, and OCEAN ICE — on how rapid changes in the Arctic and Antarctic are impacting European climate, infrastructure, security and communities. The polar regions are critical regulators of the Earth’s climate system, and the accelerating transformations at both Poles are already driving global consequences — from rising sea levels to increasing extreme weather events across Europe. With more frequent and intense climate-related disruptions affecting European lives and economies, there is an urgent need for policies grounded in cutting-edge science, robust observations, and inclusive knowledge systems. These projects combine world-leading expertise to advance our understanding of polar climate processes, strengthen coordinated observations, and ensure that knowledge is openly accessible to support informed decision-making.
