Achieving resilient food systems: Integrating agriculture, climate change, and biodiversity policies for Europe’s food security

European agriculture is challenged by climate change and biodiversity loss. Rising temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events are disrupting agricultural production, while biodiversity decline undermines the ecosystem services upon which food production depends.
In this context, ensuring Europe’s long-term food security requires a coherent approach that addresses agricultural, climate, and biodiversity challenges, as well as consumers’ considerations, together. The forthcoming discussions on the future of the Common Agricultural Policy and the next EU programming period provide an important opportunity to strengthen policy coherence and support the transition towards more resilient food systems.
This event seeks to contribute to these discussions by presenting the latest scientific evidence from by the Horizon Europe project ECO-READY. It will explore future agriculture-climate-biodiversity scenarios, gather perspectives from policymakers and relevant stakeholders, and discuss how future agricultural policy can enhance food security through supporting climate adaptation and biodiversity objectives.
By doing so, the event will foster dialogue between EU policymakers, scientists, farmers, and civil society representatives, strengthening the interface between research and policy in pivotal times for the future of European agriculture.
