Lunch briefing on “Ensuring affordable energy and a competitive European industry with the Clean Industrial Deal”
Wednesday 4 May 2025, 12:00 – 13:30
European Parliament, Room 05G1
Co-hosted by MEP Christophe Grudler and MEP Ludek Niedermayer
The MEP Group on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development is pleased to co-organise, together with the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) and with the support of Heinrich Böll Stiftung European Union, a lunch briefing on “Ensuring affordable energy and a competitive European industry with the Clean Industrial Deal.”
This lunch briefing will explore the recently announced Action Plan for Affordable Energy Prices and the pending Energy Taxation Directive, both key elements of the Clean Industrial Deal. Introduced by the new Commission within its first 100 days, the Clean Industrial Deal aims to align climate action with the competitiveness of energy-intensive industries and the clean tech sector. The event will address the EU’s preparedness for energy price crises, clean energy deployment, energy market interventions, support for consumers and industries, and strategies for energy savings.
This event is part of a series of lunch briefings organized by IEEP to create an open dialogue where MEPs can gain insight on environmental topics relevant to the work of the European Parliament in the coming months.
This briefing event will be organised around the following questions:
After the reform of its electricity and gas markets, is the EU prepared for a potential energy price crisis?
How can the EU quickly mobilise its own low-cost clean energy sources for both its citizens and businesses?
Can the EU afford price caps? (Pros and cons of different forms of intervening in energy markets)
How to balance industries’ and consumer groups’ needs for support and protection?
How to promote energy savings and demand-side flexibility to lower household bills and make industries competitive?
