The European Bureau for Conservation and Development (EBCD) is seeking a new EU Affairs Officer to support the work of the Secretariat of the MEP Group on ‘Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’.
About us
Based in Brussels, the European Bureau for Conservation and Development (EBCD) is an NGO promoting the sustainable use of maritime resources and the conservation of marine biodiversity, both at European and international levels, since 1989. At the same time, it provides the Secretariat of the MEP Group on ‘Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development’, a cross-party platform in the European Parliament that brings together Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) to foster inclusive, science-based solutions to today’s most pressing environmental and societal challenges. The MEP Group facilitates cross-sectoral dialogue between MEPs, EU institutions, Member States representatives, NGOs, international organisations, the private sector, and academia, through the organisation of events. Formerly known as an Intergroup for over 30 years, the MEP Group continues its mission into the 2024–2029 parliamentary term around six key thematic areas: sustainable food systems, water resilience, circular economy & bioeconomy, sustainable forest management, clean energy & transport, and ocean governance.
About the position:
Key responsibilities:
- Event organisation; from concept development to logistical coordination before and during the event, to post-event reporting and follow-up.
- Stakeholder engagement: Maintaining strategic partnerships and close contact with:
- EU institutions: European Parliament (particularly MEPs and Accredited Parliamentary Assistants (APAs), Policy Advisors and Committee Secretariats), Commission, and Council
- Permanent Representations of EU Member States
- NGOs, international organisations, academia, and private sector actors
- Communications: Managing the MEP Group’s social media accounts, newsletters (weekly and monthly), reports, press releases and any other type of communications
- Trainee supervision: Supporting and mentoring interns
About you:
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and competencies:
- Strong knowledge of EU institutions and a good understanding of the EU legislative process; familiarity with the internal functioning of the European Parliament is particularly valued.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in additional EU languages is an asset.
- Proven experience in stakeholder engagement, political communication, or institutional relations would also be considered as key
- Demonstrated representation skills, with a high degree of discretion and diplomacy.
- Excellent organisational abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and politically sensitive environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in managing social media channels and proficiency in creative tools or software is considered an asset.
- A collaborative and proactive mindset, with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multilingual team.
