Thursday 2 October 2025 at 14:00 – 16:00 CEST
European Parliament, Spinelli Room 5G1
The MEP Group on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development is pleased to organise an event on “Unlocking investment in the agricultural transition – aligning economic and environmental performance for farmers”, at the European Parliament, Spinelli 5G1, from 14:00 to 16:00 CEST.
As the EU gears up for a new Multiannual Financial Framework and debates future strategies to enhance Europe’s food security and strategic autonomy, the agricultural sector finds itself at a crossroads. Sustainable farming practices offer a unique opportunity to address environmental challenges, while at the same time increasing farm-level resilience and strengthening the economic viability of rural livelihoods.
This event of the MEP Group on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development – organised under the Working Group on Sustainable Food Systems – will provide a timely opportunity to explore how the EU can better align its financial instruments and investment strategies to support farmers in the transition toward sustainability. The discussion will bring together EU institutions, Member States, the farming sector, private actors, and civil society to identify practical ways forward.
It will focus on how strategic public and private investment can transform the major challenges facing agriculture—climate change, biodiversity loss, and water scarcity—into tangible opportunities. The event will highlight the importance of tools and methodologies that can quantify the impacts of different farming practices on both natural capital and farm economics, without increasing the administrative burden on farmers.
Aligning economic and environmental performance for farmers will be central to the event’s discussion, alongside the need for evidence-based policy, smarter use of EU funds, and better enabling conditions for investment. These priorities are essential to building a stronger, more resilient agricultural sector that delivers for people, nature, and future generations.
