Dear readers,
The European Parliament Intergroup on "Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Sustainable Development" has had a busy start to the year with many fruitful discussions and is looking forward to the many debates to come.
The year kicked off with a lunch debate on the 12 January discussing The Role of Bioeconomy in the Circular Economy - Taking circularity beyond waste, which was co-hosted by MEP Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, Chair of the working group on "Bioeconomy" and MEP Miriam Dalli, Chair of the working group on the "Circular Economy".
On the 24 January MEP Elisabeth Köstinger, Chair of the working group on "Sustainable Forest Management" hosted the breakfast debate Forests & Climate: The Impact of Forests and Forestry on the EU Climate and Energy Policy discussing the ongoing dossier in the Parliament on LULUCF with Mr. Artur Runge-Metzger, Director for “Climate Strategy, Governance and Emissions from non-trading sectors” at the European Commission, DG CLIMA, along with stakeholders.
Moving into February, stakeholders gathered on the 1st of the month for the conference entitled "Water Governance across Europe - In Light of the Review of the Water Framework Directive" hosted by MEP Michel Dantin, Chair of the working group on "Agriculture & Water Management".
On the 28 February MEP and Vice-Chair Julie Girling hosted the debate entitled UNFCCC COP22: Debrief and Next Steps providing insights to the outcomes of Marrakech and what the EU can further do to progress on implementing the Paris Agreement.
