As the 2022 United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) is about to start in Lisbon, EBCD would like to recall its main priorities for the oceans:
- Ensure dialogue and participation of all stakeholders in policymaking;
- Use a holistic and comprehensive approach to fisheries management: the ecosystem-based approach is the most effective to ensure the sustainability of marine resources;
- Address the impact of fishing on biodiversity and climate by providing enough means to tackle IUU fishing and facilitate the decarbonization of the fishing sector;
- Conclude as soon as possible an agreement for the sustainable use of Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ).
